Aunt Pehta’s Gardening Club

The legendary herbalist Pehta has been enchanting both young and old guests at our hotels for years with her magical mountain tales. This year, she has inspired us to create a heartfelt and original activity – Aunt Pehta’s Gardening Club – as part of our hotel animation program.

If anyone in Kranjska Gora truly knows about herbs, it's our Aunt Pehta! Not only does she recognize every leaf and root, but she also shares her herbal wisdom with contagious enthusiasm. Through our warm-hearted animation team, she passes on this knowledge to our youngest guests – introducing them to the world of healing plants in a unique and hands-on way: through play, scents, touch, and creative gardening activities.

Every week, we gather curious little gardeners spending their holidays in our hotels and set off—big smiles on their faces and woven baskets in hand—to the charming wooden herb beds next to the terrace of our Ramada Resort hotel. Some of the plants have even found their place in other cozy corners around the hotel. With this, we’ve not only beautified the hotel surroundings but also created a small educational garden that stays active throughout the year. After all – every gardener knows that there’s always something to do in the garden!

In this springtime, the children eagerly dive into work without any fear of dirt or mess – sowing, planting, watering, and learning about the wonderful plants that nature offers. What’s especially lovely is that this club doesn’t have an end to its season! In the summer, we water the garden and herbs together; in the fall, we harvest and dry the herbs; and in the winter, we treat our little guests to homemade herbal tea from the summer's "harvest" in the warm comfort of the hotel. This way, the natural cycle continues, and the club lives on throughout the year.

Among our herbs, you’ll find lemon balm, known for its calming effects that soothe and help with insomnia; peppermint, which refreshes and eases tummy troubles; wormwood, considered one of the strongest herbs for centuries and a natural repellent for unwanted summer guests – mosquitoes; chamomile, perfect for soothing the skin; and strawberries, which wonderfully refresh and delight us with their sweet fruits in the summer. We also have many other herbs, like thyme, our loyal fighter against children’s colds.

Aunt Pehta’s Gardening Club is not just a fun holiday activity – it’s an educational and sustainability-focused project that connects children with nature, encourages responsibility, and fosters an appreciation for the environment. And what’s most beautiful is that the herbs they care for will tell their own story throughout the seasons. Aunt Pehta, with her cheerfulness and wisdom, brings children closer to the tale of growth, care, patience, and of course – the joy of creating with nature.

With Aunt Pehta’s Gardening Club, we’ve taken another step towards experiencing nature – and beautified the hotel surroundings, which now smell, live, and shine in the embrace of greenery. So, if you ever wonder what’s growing next to our hotel’s terrace, just ask the little gardeners. They’ll proudly explain what they’ve planted… and which plant is “theirs.”
