The Fastest at the Top
On the first weekend of March, Kranjska Gora will once again breathe competitive skiing. At the renowned and challenging slope beneath Mount Vitranc, the Vitranc Cup will take place for the 65th consecutive year—one of the most prominent sporting events in Slovenia and an important stop on the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup circuit for men. With a tradition spanning more than six decades, the event brings together top athletes, their teams, organizers, fans, and the entire destination each year.
The details of this year’s edition of the Cup were presented at a press conference held in a truly special setting – on the top floor of our Ramada Resort hotel, in the beautiful Planica Hall. Such height can mean only one thing: a truly breathtaking view. Through the large panoramic windows, guests enjoyed sweeping views of the ski slope behind the hotel, the lively buzz surrounding it, and the mighty, freshly snow-covered peaks in the distance. Just a few days before the conference, nature had generously blessed our destination with abundant snowfall, completely blanketing Kranjska Gora in white and creating a genuine – almost picture-perfect – winter backdrop. It was no surprise that the journalists’ gazes repeatedly drifted toward the snowy slopes during the presentation.
The gathering was first welcomed by representatives of the local Alpine Ski Club Kranjska Gora (ASK), the main organizer of the event, as well as the Mayor of Kranjska Gora and a representative of the local tourist organization. All emphasized the importance of the event, both from a sporting perspective and for promoting the town and the wider region. Among those present, we also spotted several well-known figures from Slovenian alpine skiing, including Bojan Križaj and Andrej Šporn, adding a special touch of tradition and respect for our rich skiing heritage.
After the report on course preparations, investments in competition infrastructure, and the logistical challenges involved in organizing an event of this scale, it was clear that Kranjska Gora would once again host a top-class sporting spectacle. Numerous teams will arrive in the destination – not only the athletes, but also coaches, service staff, media representatives, technical personnel, and organizing teams. The men’s alpine skiers will once again fill our hotels and other event-related venues with that unmistakable sporting energy.
The Vitranc Cup is more than just a competition – it is a complete sporting and social spectacle, accompanied by an entertainment program designed to create a lively, fan-filled atmosphere and energize the entire town. The organizers also presented additional activities for visitors, which will further enrich the overall experience.
After the formal part of the event, the attendees moved to the oval hall and terrace of our hotel, where the gathering continued in a more relaxed atmosphere. The rhythm was set by a DJ, competitiveness was added through mini skiing games, and the experience was perfectly rounded off by an excellent spread prepared by our catering team. In fact, the aroma of freshly baked šmorn with cream and jam had already subtly made its way up to the top-floor hall during the conference, hinting that the day would conclude in a delightful culinary atmosphere.
Major sporting events like the Vitranc Cup hold tremendous significance for the destination. They are not just about two days of competition, but involve weeks of preparation, international promotion, fully booked accommodations, and increased visibility for the town. Such events bring together the local community, economy, tourism, and sports into a shared story of success.
As one of the largest accommodation providers in the area, we feel like an important part of this story. Our spaces are not just venues for press conferences and gatherings, but a temporary home for athletes, teams, and guests who help create the vibrant pulse of this sporting celebration.
From the top of the hotel, with Vitranc glistening in snow, it was clear—another skiing story to remember was on the horizon.
